Pipe Major Stuart Shedden
Stuart started piping at the age of 12 and was taught from scratch by Alastair McPherson (Donald's brother).
He had won most of the amateur events by the age of 17 and in 1982 was the World Junior Solo Champion. In 1983 he won the Inverchapel challenge Shield at Cowal for Pibroch.
He was Pipe Sergeant in the Toyota Pipes and Drums under Hugh MacInnes winning the Grade 2 World Championships and champion of champions in 1983. Hugh also helped him progress in the Open Solo events.
Stuart left the bands in 1988 after playing in Grade 1 for 5 years and a few years later went to Donald McPherson for tuition who some regard as the best player of all time.
He won the prestigious Highlands & Islands invitational Pibroch at Oban in his first attempt in 1994.
He won the Gold Medal at Inverness in 1998 after previously being placed 3rd and 4th.That same year he was placed 3rd at the Glenfiddich in his 1st attempt.
His other achievements include numerous prizes round the highland games circuit, the invitational Glasgow Uist and Barra Competition, the Pibroch and overall at the Scottish Pipers� Association, the Dunvegan Medal in Skye, the Donald MacDonald Quaich and a unique double at London in 2005 being runner up in both the Bratach Gorm and the open Pibroch.
Stuart works as a Sales Rep for Glaxo SmithKline and has been with them for the past 20 years. He lives in Glasgow with his wife Carole and their 3 children.
